About Ratch Vintage

Ratch Vintage is an independent vintage, antiques and interiors shop at Unit 3, Queen Court, just off Main Street in Cockermouth. Its first permanent shop opened on 17 July 2026 after the business had built a following online and through vintage fairs, markets and pop-up events. The name comes from the Cumbrian verb 'ratch', meaning to search and find. Owner Nicky Agnew has spent decades sourcing pieces for warm, individual interiors and began selling vintage professionally in 2015 before making Ratch Vintage her full-time focus in 2024. Stock is made up of one-off vintage, antique and preloved pieces rather than a fixed product range. The official shop is organised around decorative objects, lighting and candlelight, furniture and mirrors, art and textiles, plus regularly changing new arrivals.

Items can range from small ceramics and tableware to original artwork, mirrors, lamps and larger furniture. The Lake District Edit is a distinctive part of the business, bringing together vintage pieces inspired by Cumbrian landscapes, heritage houses and local stories. Because most items are unique, availability and prices change continuously, and pieces seen online may sell before a visit to the physical shop. Sustainability is central to the business. Stock is sourced from auctions, flea markets, antique fairs, salvage yards and other preloved sources, with an emphasis on extending the life of older objects and reusing packaging where possible. Regular shop opening is currently Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10am until 2pm. Ratch Vintage also offers visits by appointment at other times, which should be arranged directly rather than assumed. The online shop remains available outside physical opening hours. The shop is at 3 Queen Court, next to the National Trust shop near Wordsworth House. Queen Court is reached from central Cockermouth and is close to Main Street cafés, shops and paid public parking. Access details for larger furniture collections and customers with mobility requirements should be confirmed before travelling.

The Cumbria Guru verdict

Our local note

A lovely independent addition to Cockermouth's shopping scene, with stronger character than a conventional antiques shop and a clear Cumbrian identity. The small permanent shop, online catalogue and appointment option make it worth checking regularly because the best pieces are one-offs.
