A compact 335-metre Lake District fell above Ambleside and Rydal, delivering wide views for relatively modest height and several excellent walking routes.
About Loughrigg Fell
Loughrigg Fell rises to 335 metres between Ambleside, Rydal and Grasmere and is one of the most rewarding lower fells in the central Lake District. Its modest height hides a wonderfully complex landscape of rocky knolls, tarns and twisting paths, with summit views stretching across Windermere, Rydal Water, Grasmere and towards the higher Langdale and Fairfield fells.
There are several approaches rather than one single visitor route, including walks from Ambleside, Rydal and the Under Loughrigg road. The terrain is open fell with rocky, boggy and uneven sections, and route-finding can be less obvious in poor visibility. Carry an appropriate map or navigation tool, wear suitable footwear and plan for changing mountain weather even though the summit is comparatively low.

One of the best value-for-effort fell walks from Ambleside, with big central-Lakes views. Treat it as a proper hill walk, not a surfaced viewpoint.
