About Chesters By The River
Chesters By The River is a destination café and shop at Skelwith Bridge, a few miles west of Ambleside beside the River Brathay. The food is strongly focused on vegetarian and vegan choices, with substantial salads, savouries, pastries, cakes and coffee, while the riverside setting gives it one of the most attractive café locations in the Ambleside area.
The attached shop and bakery make it worth browsing even if you are taking food away. Chesters does not take table bookings under its current policy, so popular weekends and holiday periods can involve a wait. It is an excellent stop when travelling between Ambleside, Langdale and Coniston, or when walking around Skelwith Bridge and Elter Water.
