About Ambleside Salutation Hotel & Spa

Ambleside Salutation Hotel & Spa occupies a highly convenient position on Lake Road in the heart of Ambleside. Independent shops, cafés, pubs and outdoor retailers are just outside, while Stock Ghyll Force, Loughrigg Fell and other popular walking routes can be reached from the town. Waterhead Pier and the northern shore of Windermere are approximately one mile away, making the hotel a practical base for both fell walking and lake cruises. Accommodation ranges from Classic and Club rooms to several more indulgent collections. Suites include a floating super-king bed, seating area and bathrooms with their own steam room, sauna and double spa bath. Lakeland Spa Collection rooms add a private steam room, shower and outdoor hot tub, while Lakeland Club Collection rooms include generous living space and an outdoor area with a hot tub.

The Lakeland Classic Collection combines contemporary comforts with village or fell views, and some Club rooms have private balconies. Room features, outlooks, air conditioning and walk-in showers vary, so discuss any essential requirement with the hotel before booking. All residential stays include complimentary access to the leisure facilities. Waterfall Spa has a heated indoor swimming pool, infrared sauna, steam room, hydrotherapy features, relaxation areas and a fully equipped gym. The pool is currently open from 8am until 8pm, with no restricted family session; children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Hotel residents can use the leisure facilities throughout their stay, while day visitors can book spa experiences and Elemis treatments in advance. Treatments, spa days and packages should be reserved early because availability can be limited. The hotel restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner using seasonal ingredients in a relaxed setting, and non-residents are welcome. Breakfast is currently served from 8am until 10am. The bar and lounge offer a comfortable place for a post-walk drink or informal meal, while Crag Falls Terrace serves stone-baked pizza, pints, spritzes and other drinks outdoors when weather permits. Restaurant and terrace service times can change seasonally, so table booking is sensible for dinner, weekends and busy Ambleside events. Selected bedrooms are dog friendly and must be booked directly with the hotel. Guests travelling with a dog can request breakfast in the bar area, but should confirm room availability, charges and access rules before arrival. Family rooms, travel cots and rooms that can accommodate extra beds or sofa beds are also available subject to the chosen room type and availability. Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is by 11am. Early arrivals can leave luggage with reception. Direct bookings include breakfast unless the selected rate states otherwise, while third-party rates should be checked carefully. A major advantage in central Ambleside is the hotel's free resident parking, with one space available per bedroom. Three electric-vehicle charging points are also provided. The hotel is served by nearby bus stops, and Ambleside's main bus interchange is within walking distance. Windermere is the nearest railway station, with onward buses and taxis into Ambleside. Some rooms have walk-in showers, but the exact room layout and accessibility features differ. Guests with mobility, sensory or bathing requirements should contact reception before booking so the most suitable room, parking position and route through the hotel can be confirmed.

Our local note

A strong all-round Ambleside base for guests who want town-centre convenience without giving up a pool, spa and free parking. Standard rooms suit active walking breaks, while the private-hot-tub and spa collections offer a more indulgent stay. Book treatments, premium rooms and dog-friendly accommodation early.
