Lake District Hotels Ltd is seeking an exceptional General Manager to lead The Inn On The Square, a highly regarded boutique hotel located in the heart of Keswick, overlooking the town’s historic market square.

This is a rare opportunity to take full responsibility for a flagship property in one of England’s most desirable locations. The role is hands-on and highly visible, ideal for a leader who enjoys being on the floor, working alongside teams, engaging with guests, and driving standards through personal involvement.

As General Manager, you will oversee day-to-day operations while shaping the strategic and financial direction of the hotel. You will be accountable for performance across all departments, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, strong commercial results, and a positive, high-performing workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities

You will lead all operational areas including front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, and maintenance, taking a visible and proactive approach to leadership. You’ll ensure guest service standards are consistently exceeded, personally handle escalated guest matters, and maintain quality assurance through hands-on oversight.

Commercially, you will manage budgets and P&L performance, drive revenue growth through effective sales and marketing strategies, and maximise profitability while maintaining the character and reputation of the hotel. You will also monitor and respond to guest feedback and online reviews, using insight to continually improve the guest experience.

You will recruit, develop, and retain talented teams, creating a supportive and engaged working environment. Performance management, coaching, and staff development will be central to your role, aligned with the values of Lake District Hotels Ltd.

About You

You will have at least five years’ experience in senior hotel management, ideally as a General Manager within a boutique or independent hotel. You’ll bring strong commercial awareness, proven leadership skills, and experience managing full hotel operations with P&L responsibility.

You’ll be an excellent communicator, confident decision-maker, and natural leader who leads by example. A hands-on approach, resilience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for hospitality are essential. Knowledge of hospitality regulations, health and safety, and hotel management systems is required. A full UK driving licence is preferred.
