Worth It
One of the biggest sporting events Cumbria has hosted. The confirmed date is 2 July 2027, but the exact finish time and street are still TBC. Do not treat the all-day database envelope as the race time.
Stage One of the 2027 Tour de France finishes in Carlisle on Friday 2 July 2027, bringing the opening day of the men’s race from Edinburgh across the Scottish Borders and into Cumberland.
The official Tour de France route lists the stage at 184km. After leaving Edinburgh, the race crosses Midlothian and the Scottish Borders, includes the categorised Côte de Melrose, follows the border country through Liddesdale, briefly enters Dumfries and Galloway and then crosses into Cumberland.
Cumberland Council says the stage will finish in Carlisle near the city’s medieval castle. Tour organisers describe the final section as flat with a short finishing straight, making a sprint finish and the battle for the first Yellow Jersey a major possibility.
