Worth It
A major Cumbria event changing city for 2026. Date and Carlisle location are confirmed, but wait for the final route and timetable before planning parking around one exact street.
Carlisle Carnivale featuring The Winter Droving takes place in Carlisle on Saturday 24 October 2026. Eden Arts has moved the 2026 Winter Droving programme from Penrith to Carlisle after 14 editions in Penrith.
The new city event is being developed by Eden Arts with Great Border City BID and Arts Council support. Eden Arts says it will retain the heart of Winter Droving, including the Drovers Cup, dog fancy dress, music, street performance, participation and a twilight procession with a new large-scale finale.
Exact times and route
The detailed event timetable, exact city-centre footprint and procession route had not been published when this listing was checked on 11 September 2026. The Event therefore uses the confirmed calendar date without inventing a start or finish time.
Important location change
Older 2026 listings may still show Penrith. Those were published before Eden Arts announced the move on 10 September. The confirmed 2026 location is Carlisle.
Is the move permanent?
No permanent relocation has been announced. Eden Arts says it hopes Winter Droving could have a future in Penrith if sustainable funding can be rebuilt.
Check Eden Arts before travel for the final programme, access, road closures, public transport and parking information.
Accessibility
The final procession route, surfaces, crowd-control arrangements and accessible viewing information are still TBC. Check the organiser's final access information.
Weather plan
Outdoor autumn event with fire, procession and temporary structures. Programme may change for weather or safety.
