As much as we love walking and exploring on the fells and in the Lake District, there’s so much more to Cumbria than that. The Lonely Planet Pocket guide to the Lake District has everything in it for getting the most out of Cumbria. It has details of walks, interesting sights, places to eat and stuff for kids to enjoy.
This guide is perfect for finding out what to do up in the Lake District- ideal for people new to the area or tourists. It’s an easy to follow guide, split up into geographical locations. Cumbria is, after all, a vast area and covering it all would take some time. Find your region of interests and see the recommended activities for that area.
If you have four days to spend up here, take a look at the section titled “Four Perfect Days”. From suggested parks to visit to trips on the Steam Yacht Gondola, there’s activities for everyone. These are accompanied by suggested places to eat and stay. It’s a really useful feature if you’re planning a Lakes getaway.
My favourite touch of this book is the fold-away map in the back. Although it’s not as detailed as an OS map, it’s perfect for gaining your bearings or for letting the little ones decide where to go adventuring next!
At £7.99 it’s a real bargain. The perfect pocket companion for new trips in and around the beautiful Lake District.
